Birthday Frame Art

For my birthday I had a box frame from my crafting buddy, Rebecca.

Well actually we had one each so we could decorate it together Finnabair style.
We arranged a day and began our journey.  We started by placing our stash on the frame to make it look appealing, this consisted of wooden embellishments, metal clocks, resin flowers, metal flowers, an old front door key, lace and much, much more.

After sticking it all down, a base coat of stone was painted over everything. Then I changed my mind and decided that the glass knob I'd painted, I actually wanted to see. After ten minutes of rubbing and scraping (gently) I managed to clean it off.

At this point we ran out of time.

Friday, we managed to meet up again and complete our project, well almost.
Caramel, Toffee and Green  Olives Paperartsy paint was stippled on to the frame. Then a small amount of Chocolate Pudding and water was put in a mister then shaken to mix the two together, this was sprayed  where the clusters of  flowers and bits were to deepen  and intensify those areas.

Treasure gold was added in Onyxite and White Fire to add highlights, then a picture of my daughters from when we were crabbing while on holiday in August.

 Hope you like it......

Feeling a little Blue!!

You  can be forgiven for thinking I was depressed when I did this page.

My reason for the title was  a super piece of denim blue paper which was about  ten plus years old.
I only had one piece and was desperate to use it. Once it was painted, brayered, stamped and distressed not much of the original is visible.

The page also has a stampotique stamped image, on the edge dies were used  to add interest to the paper  and a few snow flakes as it was snowing when I started the project. Some distressed paper strips, a small piece of cheese cloth dyed with a distress ink pad swiped over the top then dried, small staples and to finish I typed the title on ye old typewriter.

I've made a card

It's been a while since I made a card.

A birthday card.

This flurry of activity was influenced by my friend Rebecca who did a background using a brayer and Paperartsy paints.  I had seen the technique on Paperartsy blog a short while ago and thought that's impressive, I can do that and didn't get round to it. However, as I sat watching the weather attempt 4 seasons in one hour, I thought, I know what to do.

Of course, get out the paints and see what happens, I had to repair the brayer first, the last time I used it was when I was helping out at the local first school, making Christmas cards by etching designs into a foam/polystyrene  base and inking over the top to make a print. Nice and messy.

Anyhow,  I chose four paints London bus, tango, yellow submarine  and pumpkin  soup, rolled them and layered them and hey presto A4 background done. So then I stamped JOFY stamps onto it, and immediately thought that's looks rubbish.

In an attempt to rescue the paper I sliced it in half and then half again, I had managed to get a bit with no stamping on, I re-stamped the images into a more pleasing arrangement. Trying  not to waste anything  I cut out  the  previously stamped flower heads, stalks and leaves, then layered up the card adding  a bit of trim,  string and a sentiment.
Finished.....

Valentines Hearts

A couple of weeks ago, pre back to blogging, my sister in law and I put together an altered heart. I made two, as one was a test piece.

The hearts were a die cut basic shape and painted with, yes, you guessed it, Paperartsy paints.
Paperclay flowers which had been made a while ago and fully dried,  were glued with paper flowers  and wooden pieces then painted in the same base coat of paint.

One of the hearts was painted in different shades of pink, with treasure gold highlighting areas of interest. The other was coloured using dylusions spray inks and again a touch of treasure gold. When looking at the photo the darker one was actually black and dark pink the treasure gold highlights have reflected the light and looks a lot lighter than it is. A little lace and ribbon was added to give a girly touch.

I don't really do pink....... I don't really do colour......
As my daughters would say I'm not a girly girl, but I am experimenting and getting over my fear of colour....

Journal Page Papillon Style

I should be ironing.......

However, I wanted to share a journal page I completed yesterday.

It's a quick take on France Papillon's, using paper I didn't really like, but hey, it was painted and inked and altered so you couldn't make out the original.
Ok it wasn't a quick one at all,  between waiting for one load of washing to finish and reloading another, hoovering, etc, etc, it took all day.......

I used a small dylusions journal which I had a while back and has been lying unloved gathering dust.
Poor little thing, I started by drawing a grid on the reverse side of the paper at 2cm intervals then cut slits in the paper to thread/weave 2cm strips of paper through.

Paperartsy paint was used to disguise the paper and provide a base to work on. Using paints in misters from a previous project I sprayed the paper and added a little more water to help disburse the colours and let them spread down the page followed by a blast with the heat gun.

Art bars (water soluble wax) were used on the edges of the woven pieces to add depth in black and rusty brown then using a water brush to blend the colours. At this point spray ink was splattered across the paper to add interest. Almost forgot I did add some distress ink pushed through a mask too.

Off cuts of paper were distressed and the edges were coloured with Distress Ink then layered with die cut lace to add interest along with a few bits of string and other bits and pieces. This was all stuck down and wording added, followed by stitching around the edge then stuck into the journal.

I already have an idea for my next page.........

February Art Calendar

Well here goes......

I do like getting messy, what ever it is.
I did do an art calendar last year too but didn't get round to posting it, so I thought I'd double up and compare this years with last years and see how the two compare.
basically lots of ink, paint and stamping.

Here is February 2014 and 2013

Here is January 2014 and finally January 2013

As you can see I didn't enter January either. LOL
You know what they say new year new start, well I'm not promising I'll
manage to post every month but I'll try.
If you want to see more pop over to Kate Crane at The Kathryn Wheel for inspiration.
Enjoy.....
