SDC220 - Bright Colours

Here in the UK after Halloween comes Bonfire Night with fireworks and Guy Fawkes.

On the 5th November bonfires and fireworks are lit in memory of the Gunpowder Plot, click here if you would like to to read more.

However, these days it's more of a fun tradition with lots of oooooooo's and  arrrrrrrr's with Sparklers, hotdogs and burgers. For some strange reason it seems to last for a couple of weeks especially if it falls midweek as people celebrate the Saturday before or after. We tend to sit in safety of the conservatory to watch Steve running up and down the garden attempting to light a few fireworks normally in the rain and cold, We only have a few as we tend to get bored also at this point the cats are having panic attacks and are trying to hide behind the sofa.

So here is my journal page for the 5th November I've combined this with the Stampotique Challenge this week which is Bright Colours, do the two combine you may be asking? I'll let you be the judge of that.
If you would like to see more inspiration on bright colours hop on over to the Stampotique blog and check out all the wonderful projects.

To begin I gave my journal pages a coat of black dylusions paint, applied with an ink applicator (This paint dries very quickly). White chalk paint was put through various stencils and masks, (in hindsight I wish I had used Gesso as the chalk paint absorbed the colour, literally sucked it in).

Lindy's Sprays and the Dylusions inks were sprayed onto the white to give the impression of fireworks the Lindy's were Starburst which have mica in so this left a nice sparkle residue on the black, after several layers of spray the colours were there but muted due to the chalk paint.
Stampotique Characters were stamped, coloured and stuck into position  with their heads angled upwards to look at the fireworks. I tried to keep the clothes dull as it is supposed to be night time, however I wanted to give the impression the sky was lighting up so that  you could see the bright colours of the hair on the characters.

A stamped border on white card was cut out and stuck in place, then coloured with bright watercolour pencils to create a rainbow edge and brown distress ink was added to the rim to complete the page.

Here is the finished page.
